We can observe two important online trends that will gain in importance in 2012:
Faster dates and more webcam/video calls
Singles seem a lot more versed by now (our dating tips seem to have been of use!) and willing to meet the other person face-to-face more quickly to check whether online and offline versions of Internet matches are actually congruent.
Switching on the webcam or arranging a first “date” via Skype is becoming more common in Europe as well. We hope this trend will encourage more online dating sites to expand their flirt features towards more advanced live chat options!

Operators have also started to analyse the “behaviour” of their users (How many emails are exchanged with a suggested match? Which match suggestions receive good votes?). On the basis of this analysis, match.com has doubled the email exchange that started on the basis of the “Daily5” within just a few days in 2011.

...to try and stay for free! Tempting and short freebies have always been an effective tool in the acquisition of customers. Just think of the fast food chain McDonald’s: when they introduced their 1-Pound-Products, everyone feared bankcuptcy. And? The burger survived.
This model was followed by the industry giant in the USA: The online dating sites know from experience that the first weekend of January is the very best. That’s when singles want to put resolutions into practice and are willing to pay for a dating site membership. The American market leader eHarmony offered all features for free on that weekend. And, rejoice, a huge number of singles, who had probably never payed for premium membership, are now addicted to eHarmony. ;)
